The Washington Commanders jumped out to a 6-0 lead over the Indianapolis Colts, taking advantage of some early turnovers. The game quickly turned when QB Marcus Mariota left the game with a knee injury. Dan Quinn told Molly McGrath during the broadcast that the team believes Mariota re-injured the MCL he had injured during the preseason, and they didn’t have a timetable for his return. Quinn said he’ gutted for Mariota after the work he put in to replace the injured Jayden Daniels. The team also
lost WR Jaylin Lane to a serious ankle injury that caused him to be carted off the field. Quinn said OLB Charles Omenihu suffered a groin injury that will need imaging. Terry McLaurin was pushing to play this week, but the team decided to hold him out to recover from the hamstring injury.
Quinn gave an update on Jayden Daniels, saying the QB will be a full participant in practice this week, and the goal will be to have him start when they host the Giants. Daniels traveled with the team and was a limited participant in practice all week. He has a new, bulkier brace on his left elbow, and he spent the week getting used to the brace he will be wearing the rest of the season. Mariota will likely miss some time with the knee injury, and Daniels return comes as Washington falls to 1-3 on the season.
The team’s decision to start Matt Gulbin got a lot of scrutiny during the game as he had a few Welcome to the NFL moments, and Mariota’s injury. Quinn said that Nick Allegretti was banged up at the end of the Seahawks game, and he would have been limited if he played today. Quinn was also criticized for the decision to go for it on 4th and 2 at Washington’s own 46-yard line. He said they expect to be able to pick up those yards
