On Thursday, the Chargers announced that they have put pen to paper with wide receiver Brenen Thompson. Thompson was one of the Bolts’ fourth-round picks this year and his finalized contract officially completes the 2026 rookie class.
Thompson, an explosive pass-catcher with blazing speed, was the Chargers’ first of two selections in this year’s fourth round out of Mississippi State. He was a draft crush of offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel, signified
by the latter’s mic’d up moment where he was caught telling general manager Joe Hortiz that he would take his shirt off and celebrate if they were able to land Thompson.
Just before his signing was announced, Thompson made some of the best plays early on in the Chargers’ minicamp this week, hauling in a lengthy touchdown of over 50 yards and adding another contested catch that got the coaching staff’s attention during Tuesday’s first minicamp practice. However, he would be seen walking off the field with a trainer soon after before missing both Wednesday and Thursday’s sessions.
With the team now excused for their short summer break ahead of training camp starting next month, we can only hope Thompson missing both practices was out of an abundance 0f caution and just getting a jump on some much-needed TLC.
