Yesterday, the Guardians won their first game of the Jose Ramirez-IL era, 4-2.
After hand-wringing in these comment sections about Bazzana’s defense and xwOBA, he broke the 2-2 tie with the Brewers in the 7th with this absolute rifle shot:
Kyle Manzardo and David Fry hit solo homers as well. The Guardians still went 0-12 with Runners in Scoring Position and left 11 on-base. I feel like this frustrating dynamic has to improve
even by luck, but some approach adjustments seem to be needed.
Parker Messick went six strong, striking out 9. His fastball averaged over 96 mph and hit 98 mph at one point, which is quite a change. The bullpen was shaky with walks, issuing six free passes in three innings, but ultimately got the job done. Erik Sabrowski, please be ok for the Houston series.
You know, minus a Gavin Williams meltdown, the Guardians probably win this series. Let’s hope they can get their bearings now and find success without Jose, DeLauter and Angel Martinez.
Kahlil Watson did not get a hit but he made a very nice play in right field. Stuart Fairchild continues to make Cam Gallagher look like a all-star hitter.
AROUND MLB:
The Twins, White Sox and Royals all won.
