The Mets are trading right-handed starting pitcher Freddy Peralta to the Rays, per a report from Will Sammon of The Athletic. Given the disappointing season the Mets are having and the fact that the team and Peralta didn’t agree to any contract extension after he came to the organization in a trade from the Brewers, it seemed inevitable that he would be traded.
In his brief time with the Mets, Peralta threw 113.2 innings over the course of 22 starts with a 4.99 ERA and a 4.45 FIP. Those rate stats
were his worst since transitioning back to being a starting pitcher on a full-time basis with Milwaukee back in 2021.
Joel Sherman reports that the Mets are getting three players back from the Rays in a trade, and Mark Feinsand says that those three players are outfielder Aidan Smith, infielder Émilien Pitre, and right-handed starting pitcher Gary Gill Hill.
The Mets sent infielder Jett Williams and starting pitcher Brandon Sproat to the Brewers in mid-January in exchange for Peralta and fellow right-handed pitcher Tobias Myers, who’s split his time between the big leagues and Triple-A this season while putting up career worst marks at the major league level.
