After a couple of bumps in the road, Tennessee has stabilized with SEC play just ahead. An ugly weekend against Kent State was put in the rearview with a couple of wins down in Texas, then two dominant mid-week wins over ETSU and Oakland.
Tennessee gets another test this weekend with Horizon League favorite Wright State coming in for three. These two know a little something about each other. Wright State was Tennessee’s opponent back in the 2021 Knoxville Regional — the one where Drew Gilbert hit
one of the most dramatic walk-offs you’ll ever see.
This squad, despite the hype, is just 4-6 on the season. They’ve been swept by Charlotte, but did take one from Georgia and beat Kent State earlier this week.
For Josh Elander, this weekend is a final chance to hammer out his best nine. Tennessee tried some different things in the lineup this week, which included getting Blake Grimmer and Garrett Wright back from injury. Both were excellent in their return against Oakland, further showing off just how deep this roster is. Elander certainly has some tough decisions to make in the coming week ahead of a trip to Athens to take on Georgia next week.
