In Konrad Laimer, Bayern Munich possess one of the most versatile players in all of Europe. Now at the midpoint in his contract, both parties have signaled a strong interest in a continued future beyond
the contract expiry in 2027.
While defensive midfield is his conventional position, Laimer is by no means defined by that role. When asked to fill in for roles at right-back, full-back and occasionally in central defence, the result has usually been the same. The Austrian slots right in and him being a midfielder is quickly forgotten. Currently, the 28 year-old is playing at both full-back positions as required by Vincent Kompany.
In an interview with Sky Sport’s Florian Plettenberg, Laimer answered questions regarding his future with Bayern post his contract.
“I’m open to anything! I feel very comfortable here” said Laimer. The Bayern exec for sport Christoph Freund signaled the club’s interest. He said “We hope that he’ll play here for many more years.”
While it is early, these are welcome positive signs in tying down core players of the team that will ensure stability in key areas.
