There’s no way to sugarcoat this: this has been a bad, bad road trip for the Mariners, who have failed to make up any ground on the Astros in the AL West and have lost sole possession of the top spot in the Wild Card race. The Mariners will now have to pay for failing to take care of business against two struggling teams in the Orioles and Mets; they’re not favored in any of these three games against Philadelphia. The Mariners hitters have been slumping on this road trip, failing to show the offensive
firepower they did during their thrilling homestand outside of one game in New York, and things won’t get easier against the trio of southpaw pitchers Philly will be running out for this series. They’ll face three straight lefties, starting tonight with Ranger Suárez. Meanwhile, the Mariners pitchers slated for this series will have all they can handle with this powerful Phillies lineup. It’s gonna be a rough time, y’all. Read the series preview if you don’t believe me.
Lineups:
Outside of Garver, the Mariners aren’t running out a particularly righty-heavy lineup for the series opener. Jorge Polanco was responsible for one of the Mariners’ three runs yesterday, but takes a seat today.
News:
After activating him as the 27th man for the Little League Classic, the Mariners returned Miles Mastrobuoni to Triple-A Tacoma.
Prior to tonight’s game, the Phillies recalled former Mariner prospect Nolan Hoffman from Triple-A Lehigh Valley and optioned RHP Max Lazar.
