Cole Palmer has been dealing with a most annoying groin injury for the past few months, limiting him to just four appearances so far this season, and then, just when it looked like he was getting ready to return — perhaps as soon as tonight against Barcelona — he managed to bang his little toe into something in an “accident” at home. (Marc Cucurella cheekily suggested he did it in a moment of frustration after losing at FIFA. I don’t know; I just throw controllers. I mean, I used to throw controllers.)
In any case, thankfully, this little setback appears to be nothing more than that, just a little setback.
Palmer, with some sort of protective footwear, has in fact returned to training on Monday, joining the full session. Though he’s still not expected to play against Barca, his participation this weekend, against league-leaders Arsenal, has not been ruled out.
“Yes, Cole is wearing a [protective] boot. We don’t know when he will be back but for sure it will be soon. He’s already on the pitch, he’s already touching the ball and the feeling [for him] is good.
“At the moment, we are only looking at tomorrow’s game. It’s a Champions League game against Barcelona, that is our focus and then we will look ahead to Arsenal. I don’t think he will be available for these two games, but he is doing well.”
