Harry Kane’s comments about Bayern Munich’s squad depth appears to have raised a few eyebrows.
The Bayern striker made even-handed comments about the current state of the squad, noting that it’s a situation players don’t have control over. Teammate Manuel Neuer also chimed in; the goalkeeper stated that he had trust in the bosses and “had a feeling” that more activity may happen.
However, Bayern alum and pundit Lothar Matthäus disputed the claim itself that Bayern’s current squad is looking a bit thin.
“I didn’t quite understand Harry Kane’s comments that this year’s Bayern squad is one of the smallest he’s ever played in,” Matthäus stated in comments captured by @iMiaSanMia. “Luis Díaz and Jonathan Tah are absolute reinforcements, and they’ve also added a really good player in central midfield in Tom Bischof.
“Lennart Karl, Paul Wanner, Jonah Kusi-Asare, and Wisdom Mike have clearly shown in the friendlies that they can compete at a high level. These players should now be given a chance, and I don’t think the squad is too small, even without the rumored Christopher Nkunku.”
Is Lothar right? Have the youth shown enough to warrant being counted among the senior team squad depth?
