Baseball, no matter how passionate you are as a fan, is a game played by human beings and never is that so evident as when the human side supersedes anything that might happen on the diamond.
Last night at AAA, Ryan Lasko suffered a truly scary injury when he collided with fellow outfielder Devin Taylor, fracturing his C6-C7 vertebrae and requiring emergency surgery. More information can be found here along with video of the play.
As Martin Gallegos reports, due to the swelling in his spine Lasko currently
does not have feeling in his lower half. Obviously all of us at Athletics Nation hope/pray for his full recovery — not as a center fielder but as a person. I thought the injury, and potential implications, merited its own post so fans can add their well wishes.
