Yesterday, inside linebacker Red Murdock was one of the final players waived during the roster cutdown process before the deadline. It was a mild surprise considering how well he played in the preseason and how much Defensive Coordinator Vance Joseph praised him throughout training camp. According to 9News insider Mike Klis, Murdock is back with the Denver Broncos signing a deal to be a part of the team’s 16-man practice squad.
The final pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, Mr. Irrelevant, Murdock had an impressive collegiate career at the University of Buffalo. Over four seasons, he played in 42 games with 31 starts. In that timeframe, he racked up an eye-popping 364 tackles, 39.5 tackles for loss, and 9 sacks. Additionally, he broke Khalil Mack’s NCAA forced fumble record with 17.
While Murdock’s coverage skills need work, he has a nose for the football and is extremely good when going downhill. Several draft analysts, including The Athletic’s Dane Brugler, had him pegged with a late-fourth to early fifth-round grade. He plays with a lot of toughness and tenacity and it’s great to see the Broncos get him back on the practice squad for further development.
