Alisson Becker celebrated crossing the 300 appearance mark for Liverpool this past month. It’s a career that is both defined by club success and singular excellence, with Becker contributing greatly towards what has been among Liverpool’s most successful decades, which includes two Premier League and one Champions League trophy.
Aside from the trophy cabinet, Becker has generally been considered among the best – if not the best – goalkeeper of his era. And one of the things that has served to further
burnish his credentials is his ability to play long and direct outlet passes with Mohamed Salah. Becker has three assists to his name – all of them to Mo.
Writing in last week’s match program, LFC’s #1 had some thoughts precisely on that special connection with Mo.
“The connection me and Mo have is from the years we’ve spent together. I know his qualities, he knows my qualities to play the ball behind the line when we have the space to do that. So, he just does what he does the best, and that is running towards the goal, and I have to do my best to kick the ball and put him in a good position so he can control it and do what he also does the best – scoring goals. It’s something that we really enjoy doing, so when that happens I think you can see from the celebrations that it’s something that we enjoy a lot, because that is part of the fun part of football as well: joy.”
I always enjoy reading stories like this because it affirms the hope that the players care deeply. For example, seeing the messages of support and well-wishes over the past few months from first-team members to folks that have recently departed from Liverpool was great because you could see which first-team members had developed friendships/relationships.
