Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor has refused to commit to Jake Browning, the quarterback replacing the injured Joe Burrow, coming off three straight losses. On Tuesday, we learned what these “personnel”
options that Taylor has hinted at since Sunday’s loss to the Detroit Lions.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport has reported that the Bengals have traded for veteran quarterback Joe Flacco, who was benched last week by the Cleveland Browns for third-round rookie Dillon Gabriel. Flacco, who has started 195 regular-season games, is now very much in play to get work against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.
Flacco has already beaten the Packers this year, as he helped hand Green Bay a 13-10 loss when he was a member of the Browns in Week 3. He only went 21 of 36 for 142 yards (3.9 yards per attempt) and an interception, but a win is a win.
Flacco isn’t great, but he’s probably a better option than Browning or Brett Rypien. Taylor said that they wanted to name a starting quarterback for the game on Wednesday, going into the team’s three consecutive days of practice prep before making the trip to Green Bay.
Keep an eye out for who Taylor will name the starter tomorrow.
