Germany’s striker problems have been well documented. It was a problem for many years, but especially once Miroslav Klose retired in 2014. In the 12 years since, Germany have horribly struggled to bring any promising striker through. The current crop is far from convincing, either. Nick Woltemade just endured a terrible season at Newcastle and has been banished out on loan. Deniz Undav had a wonderful last season but was the subject of serious controversy during the World Cup because he kept getting
benched. Oh, and Jürgen Klopp refused to call him up for his first squad.
Germany are crying out for a good striker candidate. Many are hoping Club Brugge’s Nicolò Tresoldi will answer those calls, but he has refused to do so. Instead, he wishes to take more time to choose between representing Germany or Italy.
Florian Plettenberg reports that he will, instead, go to Germany’s U-21s this international window:
Nicolò Tresoldi is set to receive his Germany U21 call-up.
The U21 squad for the upcoming EURO qualifiers will be announced on Friday.
This means there is still no final decision on whether the 22 y/o promising striker will represent Germany or Italy in the future.
It is a little bit farcical to see a 22-year-old represent the U-21s, but it gives him some time to consider. His stock has rise enough for both countries to finally start to battle for his services, though, and he cannot keep representing the U-21s forever. Tresoldi will need to make his decision fairly soon. But not yet.
