Newcastle United have stepped up their pursuit of AS Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara ahead of the summer transfer window, with the price tag already revealed.
“Newcastle United have held talks with Lamine Camara’s representatives about a potential move this summer,” the Foot Mercato reported on May 15.
The 22-year-old has emerged as a key target after a strong season with Monaco, and Newcastle is set to fight for his signature.
“Newcastle has already decided to accelerate its pursuit,” the report says.
“Newcastle are anticipating significant changes in their midfield, with the potential departures of Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes.”
Camara has been identified as a leading option to fill that gap, and it looks like Newcastle is already negotiating for the Ligue 1 talent.
“To replace them, the English club has made Lamine Camara its top priority,” the report says. “A meeting has been held between Newcastle’s management and the representatives of the Monaco player.”
However, competition for the midfielder remains strong, and the price to pay for his services might be outside Newcastle’s financial power this summer amid a near-full squad rebuild.
“Liverpool is also extremely keen on the deal,” the report says. “A check for €50 million is expected from Monaco.”
Camara is under contract until 2029 and has built a strong reputation across Europe following consistent performances in Ligue 1 this season, making him one of the most sought-after midfielders ahead of the window.
The midfielder had appeared in 30 games across all competitions at the time of the report, assisting on four goals and scoring one himself.
