The No. 1 Texas Longhorns needed nearly every part of 60 minutes to get the win over the then-No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes, but they overcame the early-game weirdness and the mid-game struggles to come away with a win. It shouldn’t be nearly as tight of an affair against the UTSA Roadrunners, but Jeff Traylor’s team is nothing to take lightly.
UTSA is coming off of a come-from-behind victory of their own, erasing a deficit twice against rival Texas State to snap the Bobcats’ streak of wins in the rivalry
series. Led by their ground game and the play of their quarterback Owen McCown, the Roadrunners scored 14 points in the fourth quarter — capped off by a 25-yard run by Brandon High, Jr. with 14 seconds left to win the game. Jeff Traylor’s squad has high hopes for the year, hoping to extend their bowl streak to six consecutive years and compete for the American Athletic Conference title.
Texas is in the unenviable position of needing a get-right game, while avoiding a letdown from Ohio State and looking ahead to the SEC opener next week. The target on their back continues to grow: now the top team in the nation, plus the normal pressure from every team on their schedule.
