Bayern Munich’s 3-1 win over Red Eagles Austria in the club’s annual dream match was not anything that was ever going to be impactful to the club’s season record, but it was a special experience for many of the players who made the trip.
“It was a great crowd and great to feel the fans’ support up close. It was a great event for everyone. It’s special and shows our appreciation towards the fans and that we know we need their support and appreciate it. Obviously it’s tough after a Bundesliga match
the day before, but we do this for the fans and the kids,” center-back Jonathan Tah said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Midfielder Aleks Pavlović was happy to see so many kids in attendance — something that might not always be possible given the rising prices for tickets in the modern game.
“I was a kid too, and seeing so many kids here…it’s always special and we enjoy doing it. I know what our team is capable of, so I wasn’t surprised yesterday. We played a great game,” Pavlović said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Finally, Lennart Karl was just happy to go out and get a little more run (ah…the freedom of youth).
“It was a lot of fun playing with the guys today and against the fans. I try to give my all in training every day and want to keep that up,” Karl noted (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig locked horns for what was anticipated as a clash of titans to raise the curtain for the forthcoming Bundesliga season, but what followed was a massacre of Biblical proportions. Bayern had looked shaky in their last few outings, and Leipzig had a lot to prove after some big changes in the team, which meant that both teams, while possessing some massive talents, had chips on their shoulders and something to strive towards.
Helping us dissect the corpse left in Bayern’s wake is Rayyan (Cyler), returning to the pod after a lengthy hiatus to perform some semblance of autopsy, although it seems this game was far more about the pure joy of watching what happened than picking apart the details of what actually did happen. In this edition, we feature:-
- A run-down of the starting XI and shape of both teams.
- The series of events that led to the defining moments of the game, and patterns from before that re-emerged.
- Some final (giddy) thoughts of what this Bayern team could look like going forward.
- A lot, a lot, a lot, of uncontrollable giddy giggling at the mere thought of this match’s existence (sorry).
