Die Folgen: Bayern’s 2-1 win over Jeju SK (Bavarian Football Works)
Preseason is gonna preseason.
Bayern Munich pulled out a 2-1 victory over Jeju SK with a ho-hum effort in South Korea. Surely, the Bavarians would have wanted (or maybe expected) more, but the travel schedule, marketing duties, and overall availability in a foreign land often make these games a crapshoot.
For the Bavarians, that proved to be the case. Let’s dive into the details — here are some quick hitters on the match:
- As always, let’s begin with a look at the starting XI:
- It was expected to be a mish-mash of players and the lineup lived up to it.
- It did not take long for Bayern Munich to get going. Felipe Chávez showed great persistence in sticking with a play to eventually lead to a perfectly placed goal on a left-footed shot from decent distance. Chávez, who fought through some traffic for the goal, is helping himself a lot this preseason and could land himself a good loan assignment if he can continue put together solid performances.
- Jeju SK was not about to go down without a fight, though. Matheus Aiás’s individual brilliance with a rainbow flick to beat Kim Min-jae led to him slotting a perfect pass to Chang-min Lee in the 15th minute to make it 1-1.
- Aiás did not have to do Kim dirty like that in South Korea. Absolutely zero chill with that move (which was completely awesome).
- The young and inexperienced lineup for Bayern Munich had its hands full at times with Jeju SK.
- Bayern Munich’s Filip Pavić took a shot to the grill and was bloodied in the first half.
- Tom Bischof did well again, but it would have been great to see him a little more involved in the attack.
- Early on, Bastian Assomo, who probably should have had a goal in the 36th minute, had a lot of trouble getting into the game. The youngster was not able to settle in and get comfortable. With Assomo, Chávez, Guido Della Rovere, and Bara Sapoko Ndiaye leading the attack, it was always going to be a little discombobulated until they settle in together.
- Kim left the match after 35 minutes and man, did he look like he played a full game. The big defender was drenched with sweat.
- Assomo would get that elusive goal with a nice finish in the 41st minute after a nice, little pass from midfielder João Palhinha.
- Sometimes, you forget the perils and absolutely wildness of preseason football…and other times, games like this are there to remind you.
- Palhinha almost added a goal in the 44th minute, but sent his curling attempt just wide.
- Jonas Urbig had a really nice save in the 56th minute. Interestingly, Manuel Neuer did not dress for the match as he was given a day off to rest.
- Konrad Laimer brought some real intensity and energy into the match, but was not all that sharp otherwise (as expected).
- Maycon Cardozo brought that same type of energy as well. It is crazy that Bayern Munich did not score in the second half give the pressure it was creating on the Jeju SK backline.
- Of the rest of the substitute group, Joshua Kimmich was solid and helped ease the game into submission.
- Overall, it was a solid, yet unspectacular showing. No one was horrible (yeah!), but no one absolutely took over, either. It looked like a preseason game. Even with that, young players got a chance to show off their skill and veterans got a chance to shake off some rust. Mission accomplished!

Ibrahimović has big hopes for 2026/27 (Sport Bild’s Christian Falk)
Fans might be split on the potential of Arijon Ibrahimović, but the player is thinking big for this season:
✅ It is TRUE: Bayern Munich consider Arijon Ibrahimović as the backup option to Luis Diaz this season. This follows the club’s extensive planning around the position and potential solutions in the market. They worked out quickly that Yan Diomande would be too expensive, so they came to the idea that they would mimic the solution they found on the right side by having Lennart Karl be Michael Olise’s understudy. This worked out perfectly. Now, Bayern Munich have this incredible talent they can call upon on the right wing who’s too expensive for most other clubs to buy. Don’t forget the Real Madrid rumours!
They have the same idea with Ibrahimović on the other side. I saw him at the session in the training camp at the Tegernsee, and he was really fighting hard for his position. He was playing against Wisdom Mike, and Wisdom did very well in this duel (this zweikampf, we say, in Germany). Ibrahimović has a big dream this season and he’ll throw everything at it. Why can’t he go the way of Lennart Karl and carve a place out in the first-team squad like Karl? Okay, Lennart may be younger than him, but he can see an opportunity to follow the pathway.
The best case scenario for the youngster is that he puts in the hard work, gets minutes, and melds into all of the talent around him. It is a unique chance to be surrounded by incredible players and try to elevate yourself.
It likely will not take too long before we know whether Ibrahimović is up for the challenge.
NUFC to make move for Adams? (ESPN)
Newcastle United could be thinking about a move for USMNT midfielder Tyler Adams:
Newcastle United are considering a move for AFC Bournemouth midfielder Tyler Adams after cooling their interest in alternative targets, Football Insider says. The USMNT international impressed at this summer’s World Cup, with the Magpies now monitoring his situation as they look to strengthen in midfield. Manchester United are no longer expected to pursue Adams, potentially giving Newcastle a clearer path to the 27-year-old.
Kostić to PSV (Eindhovens Dagblad’s Rik Elfrink)
Former Eintracht Frankfurt star Filip Kostić looks set to join PSV Eindhoven:
Kostić signs with PSV until 2028 if everything gets finalized tomorrow. Sano even until 2031. These were transfers that had been written about for weeks already, and now the resolution is coming up.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, also had information on the transfer as well:
🔴⚪️ Filip Kostić will undergo medical on Wednesday as new PSV Eindhoven player joining on a contract until June 2028.
Deal done, as @RikElfrink reports.
Kostić is now 33-years-old (which seems wild).
Atléti could pounce on Grealish (ESPN)
Atlético Madrid might be willing to take a chance on Jack Grealish to see what he has left in the tank:
Atlético Madrid are considering a move for Manchester City winger Jack Grealish, who spent time on loan at Everton, according to The Sun. The Spanish club are admirers of his work rate on and off the ball, and he is seen as a good tactical fit for longtime manager Diego Simeone. Even so, Grealish might have to accept a rotation role should he move, given the competition among Atleti’s squad. He could also look to return to Everton if a move to Atleti doesn’t come off.
Grealish is rumored to be a favorite of Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany, but that ship has long since sailed.
Mudryk to Strasbourg? (Foot Mercato)
Chelsea could be looking to send “suspension returnee” Mykhailo Mudryk to Strasbourg:
Back after his doping suspension was lifted, Ukrainian winger Mykhailo Mudryk can return to professional football for the upcoming season. Chelsea has learned to manage without him and will likely not rely on him for the 2026-2027 campaign. Several clubs have already expressed interest in acquiring him on loan, including Strasbourg, which shares the same owner as Chelsea .
Some thought Chelsea would prefer a loan to a Premier League club to get him back into the swing of English football. However, according to our information, Chelsea actually wants to loan their 25-year-old player to Strasbourg. RCSA could therefore count on a high-level reinforcement in the coming weeks…
Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl had interest in Mudryk before his suspension, but it does not appear as if that is on the table these days.
