When it comes to success on the field, the Cincinnati Bengals have had much more than the Cleveland Browns over the last two decades. That has not always been true when the Browns and Bengals play, but the final records at the end of the season have been pretty lopsided. Cleveland has been in the heads of the in-state rival, including copying a lot of the uniform, and a Browns defender giving WR Ja’Marr Chase nightmares
.This season, Cleveland’s identity is on defense, while Cincinnati hopes to ride
its passing offense back to the playoffs.
The two teams were connected in rumors around DE Trey Hendrickson recently, as the Bengals continue to be the “Dollar General of the NFL.” Cincinnati has been known to be cheap in a variety of ways, including player contracts, limited coaching and front office staff and unwillingness to even build a walkway for their players to get to the practice bubble, which means they have to cross a street in uniform:
The team has somehow hit a new low, however, according to Bengals legend Boomer Esiason, who laid it out in his podcast. In discussing the upcoming Ring-Of-Honor ceremony, Esiason shared these details
- Former players will need to pay for their own flights to Cincinnati
- They were told to “RSVP quickly” to ensure they have a discount code for a hotel room, which they still need to pay for
- The players are only given two tickets to Jets vs. Bengals, with the option to purchase more
- They had one day to respond to the team and say whether they’re going
- The tickets aren’t even for a box, just in the stadium stands
What makes it even more dumbfounding is that the team has only eight living members of their Ring of Honor and are still being this cheap. No wonder Hendrickson wants out.
