News broke the football world this week as reports came out that Manuel Neuer would be returning to the national team to be the starting goalkeeper for Julian Nagelsmann’s German squad this summer in North America. While the squad hasn’t been finalized yet, Nagelsmann is keeping things quiet until the big announcement on Thursday.
While there are many points of contention in this squad at the moment, it truly does feel as though getting the goalkeeper right could be the biggest choice of them all.
One that could be surrounded in controversy depending on what version of Neuer we see this summer.
“I always try to talk to the players first – to all of them, regardless of their name. The player is always contacted first, but that hasn’t happened yet. I’ll have to have around 62 phone calls by Thursday, and then we’ll see what happens,” Nagelsmann told @sportstudio as captured via @iMiaSanMia.
It seems as though Nagelsmann is avoiding the topic for now. Thursday will be the big day, and we will have the certain answer but all signs seem to point towards a return for the legendary goalkeeper. It seems as though Nagelsmann made the right decision with Oliver Baumann being in poor form but there are still some key decisions to make around other personnel.
