With the 2-1 win over Aston Villa, Bayern Munich’s preseason travels are over.
The rest of the returning World Cup players will meet up with the team when they return to Munich while the youngsters will each face their own individual assignments, either being reintegrated into their respective youth teams or loaned out. In other words, the time for the youngsters to impress during preseason is over.
Nevertheless, they left an impression on Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany.
“To be honest, I was impressed
with all the players,” the Belgian coach said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “It’s difficult to go into these games with so many players still to come back. Obviously some players are still young, some have never played against a team of this level. But for example if I look at Tim (Binder) and Maycon (Cardozo), how they defended, how they fought, the duels they went into, I know how tough it is to come up with a good performance. Also the energy we had in midfield with Pavlo (Aleksandar Pavlović), (Tom) Bischof, Konny (Konrad Laimer) who helps us anywhere we need him. We put a lot of time and energy to develop these players. This is a bit of a reward for the work we did with these young players. I was happy with that.”
While no one hit the heights that Lennart Karl or Jonah Kusi-Asare did in the 2025 preseason, Kompany is correct in pointing out that the commitment was all there. Whether this effort will manifest in a role with the senior team in the 2026/27 season remains to be seen.
