Just four days after facing AS Roma in Europe, Chelsea Women are back in the Women’s Super League for another London derby, this time away to newly-promoted Charlton Athletic. The Blues have reclaimed top spot in the league after six consecutive wins, while the Addicks are still searching for their first points of the season.

Charlton team news: Karen Hills’ side have endured a miserable return to the top flight after almost two decades away, losing all seven of their opening Women’s Super League matches while scoring just three goals and conceding 19. The Addicks suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Birmingham City last weekend before losing 2-1 to West Ham in the Women’s League Cup on Wednesday.
Charlton made several additions over the summer to prepare for life in the WSL, bringing in experienced duo Ashleigh Neville and Emily van Egmond from Leicester City, alongside forward Lorena Azzaro on loan from Paris FC. Meanwhile, midfielder Katie Bradley departed for Newcastle United and Emma Bissell joined Bristol City.
In terms of injuries, Charlotte Newsham, Hawa Cissoko, Linda Líf Boama and Paula Partido remain unavailable. Defender Elisha N’Dow is also a doubt after picking up a knock against Birmingham, although Grace Johnston returned to action against West Ham in midweek.
Chelsea team news: The Blues followed last weekend’s comeback victory over Crystal Palace with a 2-0 win against AS Roma in the UEFA Women’s Champions League on Wednesday, thanks to second-half goals from Ellie Carpenter and Kadeisha Buchanan. It was another performance that required some adjustments from Sonia Bompastor, whose substitutions have proved particularly effective in recent matches.
Bompastor has confirmed that Lexi Potter is unlikely to feature after suffering a knee injury against the Giallorossi midweek, although scans revealed no serious damage. Naomi Girma also remains unavailable with a calf injury, while Mayra Ramírez is still absent. On a more positive note, Erin Cuthbert made her first start of the season against Roma, while Lauren James and Keira Walsh are both available after missing last weekend’s victory over Palace.
Previously: Four goals to nil in the first leg of the 2020 Women’s FA Cup fourth round.
