Another Monday series opener, and another Spencer Strider start, this time against the Miami Marlins.
The last time we talked about Strider and his appearance on the mound, he only pitched for three innings, giving up seven runs, 10 total hits with only two strikeouts.
This resulted in a White Sox 13-9 win over the Braves in their series opener.
Pretty brutal.
Not only are fans disappointed , but he’s displayed his frustration on multiple occasions since his performance decline.
Will tonight be the night that
everything shifts for him?
In Mark Bowman’s article pertaining him for MLB.com, Strider commented on his fastball and how he wasn’t able to command the zone like he knows he can.
Also that his slider is an effective pitch, but isn’t helpful when he’s behind on counts or not deceiving the hitter enough to try to swing at it.
Although his velocity has risen, the results aren’t showing.
In a nutshell, he explained that he just needs to make adjustments with some of his movements to connect with his pitches and be better overall.
For the sake of Braves fans, let’s hope those adjustments were made for tonight’s opener against the fish.
A familiar face will be facing the Braves to start the series.
Edward Cabrera faced the team as a starter on the eighth on this month, going deep into eight innings, and securing the win (5-1) after giving up only one run and eleven total strikeouts.
Attacking the zone with a combination of solid pitches from his arsenal, along with the run production given by his team was all he needed to push through.
Currently boasting a 3.52 ERA and 1.22 WHIP, the Braves will need to level up on all areas, starting with pitching and following up with effective plate appearances to avoid history repeating itself in Florida.
Seems simple enough…right?
Well, in this game, nothing ever is.
What Strider will we get tonight, and will the striking bats show up tonight for the Braves?
Tune in for first pitch at 6:40 p.m EDT to find out.
