The football world is waiting to see the diagnosis for Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow.
Burrow was injure during the second quarter of yesterday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Burrow was wearing a boot and on crutches due to a reported turf toe injury, but how long the star quarterback will be sidelined remains unknown.
Reports are an MRI was performed on Burrow’s toe, and the results have been sent to a renowned surgeon to get an idea of what the treatment options are moving forward.
It is possible the injury is severe enough that surgery is needed. If that’s the case, Burrow would likely be sidelined for three months, missing most, if not all, of the remainder of the season.
Burrow was not available for interviews after the game, and head coach Zac Taylor did not update Burrow’s situation, leaving fans to speculate (mostly with pessimism) about Burrow’s status.
Burrow is one of the top quarterbacks in the league, and when he’s healthy, the Bengals have the ability to compete for the AFC North. Since Burrow came to Cincinnati, they have not fared well when he has been out with injury. It is assumed Jake Browning would take over the starting spot if Burrow is expected to be out several weeks, but the Bengals might opt to make a move if Burrow is sidelined for three months.
As football fans, we now sit and wait.
