While Bayern Munich still pushes for another historic treble, there is still diligent work being done behind the scenes in terms of squad planning. Thinking five steps ahead is the name of the game when it comes to success in the transfer markets that are becoming increasingly fickle. The club recently tied down Serge Gnabry, Dayot Upamecano, and Lennart Karl to new deals and they’re still working on getting one done for Harry Kane.
On the other side of the coin, Leon Goretzka will be leaving the club
after this season and Nicolas Jackson, despite having ambitions of fighting for his place in the Bayern team, will likely leave at the end of his loan spell, too. In the same vein, Raphaël Guerreiro still has not signed an extension, and his current contract expires this June.
As such, there will be spots that need to be filled to keep the squad well rounded in all areas of the pitch and Bayern have identified Brentford FC’s Kevin Schade as a potential transfer target. Per information from both Bild and Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg (via @iMiaSanMia), Bayern is “monitoring” the situation of the German 24-year-old whose contract at Brentford runs through June 2028.
Per Plettenberg, at this juncture there is nothing more serious or concrete aside from Bayern keeping an eye on Schade’s situation and a move is not currently in the cards. Bild report that Bayern have already informed Schade’s agents that he’s a player that’s internally on a shortlist for the Bundesliga champions and he has the same agent as Bayern’s Nicolas Jackson, Ali Barat. Ideally, Bayern would like to have a player that could serve as a backup of sorts for Luis Díaz on the left wing, a position where Schade regularly applies his traits.
Right now, the problem for Bayern is that Brentford would be highly unlikely to let Schade go for anything less than €70m, knowing that he has some time left of his current contract and his market value is right around €35 without a release clause in his contract. Brentford are also aware of Schade’s pedigree in the Bundesliga from his time with SC Freiburg, which is another selling point they can use if they are eventually willing to listen to offers from Bayern, or anyone else in Germany for that matter.
