The Green Bay Packers have named captains in several different ways under head coach Matt LaFleur, but it appears that they’ll be rolling with a season-long set of five captains in 2026, based on the team’s announcement on Monday. In the past, the team has also rotated captains on a game-by-game basis, as we all remember the Jaire Alexander suspension back in 2023.
The Packers seem to have two offensive captains, two defensive captains and a special teams captain. On offense, the leaders are quarterback
Jordan Love and tight end Tucker Kraft, who has yet to sign an extension going into the regular season. Defensively, the captains are safety Xavier McKinney and new Mike linebacker Zaire Franklin, who was traded for this offseason from the Indianapolis Colts. On special teams, the captain is linebacker Isaiah McDuffie, who has been a contributor on the unit going into Year 6 now.
Notably, only 2 of the Packers’ top 11 highest-paid players made the cut for the team’s five-man set of captains. Love and McKinney made the list, but Micah Parsons, Christian Watson, Zach Bako-Bewele, Aaron Banks, Devonte Wyatt, Jayden Reed, Josh Jacobs, Javon Hargrave and Sean Rhyan all make significantly more on an average salary basis than Kraft, Franklin and McDuffie.
