It might not be the exact Earth, Wind & Fire lyric, but go ahead and say it a little like this …
Do you remember … the second weekend of December?
Well, you could be about to because it feels like what has
become the impossible has actually happened.
That is due to the simple fact that for the first time in a whopping 550 days, Juventus striker Arek Milik is back in training this weekend, albeit on a limited and partial basis at the moment. Multiple reports in Italy has told us such, with Milik returning to the fields at Continassa for the first time since suffering an injury in the gym we still don’t really know much about over the summer at the start of preseason training. (Not even kidding — it’s listed as an “unknown injury” on transfermarkt’s injury history page.)
This is not a typo, folks. Milik, albeit partially at the moment, is actually back training with the rest of the squad after one of the longest injury absences — albeit not just because of one injury! — we’ve ever seen at Juventus.
With January just a couple of weeks away, this could very well be something that sees Milik return to training, try and prove to other clubs that he is healthy and then see his contract — which, in case you’ve forgotten, was extended through 2027 back in April — ended a little early despite still having 18 months remaining on it.
Or, considering the fact that Luciano Spalletti is suddenly down Dusan Vlahovic for the next three months or so, the possibility of him actually playing for Juventus again is maybe actually a thing. Maybe? Who knows!
That’s the complete unknown when you have somebody on your roster that hasn’t played in a year and a half. You simply have absolutely no clue where they are in the pecking order or if they have any sort of future at the club now that they’re back training again. And as much as we know he is partially training with the squad again, we also have no idea where Milik is at physically. We know this story could very well take another turn where he’s training for a few days or a week or two but then picks up another injury and is sidelined for a month again.
For now, though, we’re able to say something we haven’t been able to say for much of the last 18 months: When Juve return to Continassa following their trip to Bologna this weekend, Milik will be there alongside his teammates. Sometimes even that sort of development feels like a major win for a player who has had absolutely zero luck when it comes to his physical health over such an extended period of time.
