The Guardians acquired Justin Bruihl, a LHP, from the Blue Jays for cash considerations. To make room on the 40-man roster, Jhonkensy “Big Christmas” Noel was DFA’d. Matt Seese has a great write up on Bruihl and
how he fits into the bullpen. Back in October, Quincy made a point in his Season in Review of Jhonk that the team could not reasonably carry both Johnathan Rodríguez and Jhonkensy Noel on the roster. It appears that Quincy was spot on, the team valued Johnathan Rodríguez’ minor league option, -0.4 fWAR, and .626 OPS over Jhonkensy. Jhonk finished the 2025 season with -1.1 fWAR and .480 OPS in 153 PAs. It was time to move on but with no semblance of hope that the team will sign a RHH OF that can actually field the ball, its understandable why fans might be a touch upset. The off season is not even close to being over and, at a glance, the front office have made good moves in the pitchers they’ve picked up. Now its time to add some bats.
