The Yankees continue to bide their time, and we’ll have to continue to hope they’re just waiting to pounce. Yesterday, we saw the Yankees-to-Mets pipeline strengthen even further, Luke Weaver defecting
to Queens for two years and $22 million. The Mets have now successfully recreated the Yankees’ late-inning combo from the first half of the 2025 season, as both Weaver and Devin Williams will now look to bounce back from off years on the other side of New York. The Yankees were in the news elsewhere, with rumors floating that they’re expected to be a finalist for Tatsuya Imai, but for now, we’re still on the sidelines watching a former player head over to the Mets. On the site today, check out the next piece in our Free Agency series, as Sam profiles Tommy John, while Jeremy examines Freddy Peralta, a highly enticing trade target that the Yankees could home in on if they aren’t able to secure Imai.
Questions/Prompts:
1. What do you make of the Mets simply swiping the Yankees’ top high-leverage relievers from the start of last season?
2. Just for 2026, would you rather add Tatsuya Imai or Freddy Peralta to the Yankees’ rotation?
