Kim Min-jae has not lived up to the hefty expectations placed on him since his €60m signing from SSC Napoli in 2023. After two seasons of mixed performances, Kim has struggled to cement his place in Vincent
Kompany’s Bayern side in the 2025/26 season, losing out to new signing, Jonathan Tah. However, the South Korean international may have just earned his starting berth back.
One goal, an excellent goal-preventing recovery sprint and a clean sheet to wrap it all up was enough to earn Kim the man of the match award in Bayern’s 3-1 victory against FC Köln . It is the first time since Bayern’s 1-0 UEFA Champions League victory over Benfica in 2024 that the six foot three center-back has earned the honor.
Struggling for minutes and form, Kim has had a disappointing season thus far. There have even been numoerous rumors and whispers linking him with a transfer away from Munich. However, his performance against Köln proved what he still has to off Bayern and could come as a turning point—in an important part of the season at that.
Let’s hope ‘The Monster’ can string these types of performances together consistently for the remainder of the season!
