According to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, Barcelona have internally decided that Julián Alvarez is their priority until deadline day — and if they cannot complete a deal for the Argentine striker, they could potentially make no further addition at center-forward.
FC Barcelona is expected to be one of the top-tier contenders in the Champions League this season and a move for Alvarez would fill an important void on the squad. Without a defined striker, Barca could fall behind the likes
of Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Arsenal, and others within the Champions League race.
Hansi Flick is fully behind the move, while sporting director Deco is pushing hard for Alvarez and does not intend to give up on the pursuit. Barcelona has explored other striker options, but none appear to have changed their stance. Unless an exceptional opportunity suddenly becomes available on the market, Alvarez is essentially the player they want.
FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta has reportedly made the necessary financial means available for Barcelona to pursue the transfer. That means the next major hurdle is Atlético Madrid. The Catalan club will ultimately determine whether this move can happen, and Barcelona will have to find a way to convince Atlético to part with one of its most important players.
For Flick, adding Alvarez would give Barcelona another elite attacking option capable of playing through the middle or contributing from other positions across the front line. His pressing, movement, technical ability, and finishing would also fit naturally into Flick’s style.
The pressure is now on Barcelona to get the deal done, which still feels like a longshot.
