After an impressive training camp showing, 18-year-old Beckett Hamilton is back in Red Deer ready to captain his Rebels for the rest of the 2026-27 campaign. Speaking with the Red Deer Advocate, the center reflected on his time with the Colorado Avalanche including thoughts on the goal he scored in the first preseason game against Utah.
“It started as Gabe (Landeskog) drove wide and sent one back door to me. I really couldn’t see it but got my stick on it but it went behind the net. The play turned
back up ice and Necas was there. He knocked it down with skill that was pretty impressive. I ended up going back door again and he gave it to me, and it was a tap-in. I was fortunate to get that one, but it was a great play by Necas, it was awesome.”
Hamilton says the moment was a real rush.
“It was crazy … it happened pretty fast. One second, you think you’re backchecking and the next it’s a tap in. It happened so fast.”
Another big topic in this conversation was about how Hamilton took the time to really learn from a fellow captain in Gabe Landeskog.
“I talked with him a few times and met him a few times in the summer,” Hamilton explained. “He’s an unbelievable guy, a picture-perfect captain. He leads the group on and off the ice, holds himself accountable and is an unbelievable guy for everyone.
“There are so many things he does that I want to take from him. He has so much experience being captain in that league, also a winning captain, which is huge. I want to take everything he does on the ice, off the ice, his habits and how he holds everyone accountable including himself. He helps everyone out. It you need anything he’s the guy to go to. He knows the answers, he’s there for everyone.
“I want to try to be like that this year, so yah he was unbelievable.”
