Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany did not have to look at the schedule too long to know that from mid-November to mid-December, his team was going to have its hands full.
When asked if he needed
the winter break after Bayern Munich’s 2-2 draw with Mainz 05, Kompany focused on the positives of how his team performed in the midst of a rugged stretch.
“I thought we came through this period pretty well, especially when you see other teams and how many players they’re missing. As for us, we got players back from injury like (Hiroki) Itō and (Alphonso Davies) Phonzy. Once Jamal (Musiala) is back we’ll have everyone available. Of course today was disappointing. We always want to win at home, regardless of the opponent – today we didn’t manage to do that,” said Kompany (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Kompany is not wrong. Bayern Munich has been very good, but did suffer a rare misstep vs. Mainz 05. On a different day, Bayern Munich could have walked away with four or five goals, but the squad was ruthlessly inefficient on the day. Hopefully, with some normal rest, that situation will rectify itself.
