While the largest ever FIFA World Cup has finally come and gone with Spain lifting the title over the weekend, the summer transfer window has been in full swing. Some of Europe’s top club have been quietly busy while the World Cup has been going on, some have made some loud transfers, and others haven’t done any business at all as of yet.
For Bayern Munich, they’ve already brought in Ismael Saibari from PSV Eindhoven and Nathaniel Brown from Eintracht Frankfurt while youngster Arijon Ibrahimović has
also signed a contract extension with the German Rekordmeister after a loan spell at Heidenheim. On the other end, Leon Goretzka has left the club along with Raphaël Guerreiro, Noël Aséko Nkili, Jonah Kusi-Asare, and Lovro Zvonarek.
Additionally, the club is still trying to figure out what to do with midfielder João Palhinha after Tottenham Hotspur said they did not want to activate the buy-on clause at the end of his loan deal from Bayern as they narrowly avoided relegation from the Premier League — and have brought in Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes to bolster their midfield. From Vincent Kompany’s perspective, Tom Bischof being in the squad as well as Brown’s ability to play midfield more than covers the likes of Joshua Kimmich and Aleksandar Pavlović, who are the regular starters.
Per information from Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg (via @iMiaSanMia), Bayern are still going to keep their eyes open in the summer transfer market, but they are otherwise pleased with the squad they currently have after the additions of Saibari and Brown. Internally, the front office and supervisory board are not completely closed off to the idea of another potential signing if the right opportunity were to present itself, but Max Eberl and Christoph Freund’s main task at the time being is to try to offload players that aren’t in favor to help lower the overall wage bill at the club — something that’s been an ongoing task for the board member for sport and sporting director since they’ve been at the club.
In defense, the club would also reportedly be open to listening to appropriate offers for the likes of Alphonso Davies and Hiroki Ito, while the club had recently changed their mind on Kim Min-jae and no longer consider the South Korean international a candidate to be sold this summer.
