A big update on the injury front for the Michigan Wolverines was announced on Sunday afternoon, as running back Justice Haynes is set to undergo surgery for his foot injury, according to Matt Zenitz of
CBS Sports.
According to Zenitz, there isn’t a firm timetable for Haynes’ return, but the Wolverines are hoping to get their star running back before the end of the season. Michigan is entering a bye week, after which it will have road games against Northwestern and Maryland before finishing the regular season against Ohio State at home.
Haynes left Michigan’s game against Michigan State last week in the second half after he’d already ran for 153 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries. He didn’t play this weekend in Michigan’s win over Purdue, and missed much of the game against USC, as well as the game against Washington two weeks ago.
After transferring in from Alabama, he has been arguably Michigan’s best offensive player in 2025. On the year, Haynes has already run for 857 yards on 121 carries while scoring 10 touchdowns, looking like one of the best overall backs in the country and positioning himself to potentially be a high draft pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
With Haynes out, Michigan will turn to Jordan Marshall as its lead back for the next few games. Marshall turned in the best performance of his career on Saturday night against Purdue, running for 185 yards and three touchdowns on 25 carries. Behind him, Michigan will likely rely on some combination of junior Bryson Kuzdzal and freshman Jasper Parker.
