Welcome back to club action…
In an important home encounter against VFB Stuttgart, a team against whom Dortmund always seem to screw it up, Dortmund screwed it up. A two-goal advantage was not enough to stop
Denis Undav from pretty casually finding three goals to consistently make a mockery of BVB’s efforts to win the game. Those efforts were decent, but ultimately undone by the lack of effort to complete the job. Again.
I really can’t go any further into it. I just don’t want to.
Here are today’s candidates for MOTM. Which feels ironic.
Maximilian Beier
It was a weird game for Beier, from a weird position. He made the most of it in the first half, providing an attacking outlet on the left and helping keep BVB in dangerous areas. He was rewarded with a goal from his poacher’s instincts. His assist was selfless, but really, Adeyemi put him in a poor position to finish off Dortmund’s final move of the evening, so he really didn’t have a choice.
Jobe Bellingham
Bellingham had a pretty tidy game in attack. I will admit to having lost track of him over the course of the game, so if he had a defensive howler I am not remembering, please correct me in the comments. But I liked his attacking play and close control. Encouraging.
Emre Can
Can got absolutely pantsed by Undav for Stuttgart’s first goal of the evening, which is why he is my third choice candidate. With his well-taken penalty and all-around good play, including some nice distribution, footwork, and defensive presence, he could have been the undisputed MOTM. But then again, he captained a defense that shipped three goals to the same guy, so I don’t think so.
Karim Adeyemi
Adeyemi looked hungry to make an impact in his short time on the field, and he succeeded in doing so. Adeyemi has spent a lot of time out of the starting eleven in recent matches for BVB, and I am unsure if it is because Kovac prefers other players or if he prefers to use Adeyemi as a joker. It worked today, and Adeyemi was exactly what BVB needed in attack at the right moment. Unfortunately, the team did his efforts no justice and threw away the game anyway.
Please feel free to tell me I missed someone or am wrong. You can also just call me stupid and wrong if it helps you get some frustration out after that result. Blegh.
