As a top five club in the world, Bayern Munich will always be the subject of transfer rumors regarding world class players. Bayern’s eight-figure salaries tower over the rest of the Bundesliga where the top player usually caps out around €5M a year. For the past seven years, Bayern has spent at least €40M on a big signing during the summer window.
- 2025: Luis Díaz, €70M
- 2024: Michael Olise, €53M; João Palhinha, €51M
- 2023: Harry Kane, €95M; Kim Min-jae, €50M
- 2022: Matthijs de Ligt, €67M
- 2021: Dayot Upamecano, €42M
- 2020: Leroy Sané, €49M
- 2019: Lucas Hernández, €80M
“It’s always bad when you have to go shopping hungry,” said Max Eberl (via @iMiaSanMia). “With the signings and extensions we’ve now secured, we can look
around calmly. We’re always interested in strengthening the squad in specific areas, but we’re no longer under that same intense pressure. We can shop selectively and strategically.”
Bayern fans will generally approve of paying big money for an immediate starter. As Eberl mentions, Bayern’s biggest problem has been throwing money at average contributors and then stick Bayern with immovable contracts.
For the first time since the sextuple-winning season, Bayern does not look desperate to bring in players. Instead, Bayern is relying on shrewd moves, like Díaz and Olise, while integrating academy prospects, like Aleksandar Pavlović and Lennart Karl.
