Happy Friday everyone! And Happy Halloween!
The 2025 World Series has been one of the fun ones. After the Toronto Blue Jays split their first two games at home against the favorite Los Angeles Dodgers,
they went into LA and shocked everyone by taking two of three, and the lone loss was that epic 18-inning marathon in Game 3 that really could have gone either way. In another universe, this series is already over and the Jays are planning their parade. This universe’s Dodgers may have one last thing to say about that though.
With their backs up against the wall and on the road, the Dodgers will ask right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto to prolong their season just one more day. The $325 million dollar arm has been everything the Dodgers could have hoped for and especially during the postseason. He’s made four starts this October and has allowed just five runs in almost 30 frames. He’s also got a shot at history tonight; after tossing two complete games his last two times out on the mound, Yamamoto could be just the third pitcher since 1970 to throw three straight complete games in the postseason. He did that in Toronto and the Dodgers would surely love more of the same, but with elimination on the line the hook might come a bit earlier if LA’s co-ace looks shaky early on.
For the Blue Jays, it’ll be up to veteran right-hander Kevin Gausman to pitch them to the promised land. The 13-year veteran has been to the postseason before but never more than for just a quick taste before his teams were eliminated. This has been his first extended look in October and so far the 34-year-old has looked like he’s been waiting a long time for this moment. Now set to make his second World Series start and final one of the season, he’ll be leaving everything out there on the field tonight as he tries to get his first ring. He pitched nearly seven full innings in Game 2 but got saddled with the loss after a late meltdown. Still, Gausman could have been their Game 1 starter and his teammates have to feel confident with him on the mound.
That’s not all that’s going in their favor right now. It’s looking more and more likely that leadoff man and primary DH George Springer is going to give it a go for Game 6, which is frankly a shocking development considering what we all saw in Game 4. It’s rare for a baseball player to be able to play through an oblique injury but Springer, who some say still needs some building for his Hall of Fame resume, looks like he’s going to give it a go. Add in Bo Bichette to the lineup (likely at second base) and Toronto has just about everything they could ask for heading into tonight’s possible clincher. Home-field advantage. A veteran on the mound. A mostly fully healthy lineup. No excuses for them tonight.
If the Dodgers can survive and win tonight’s game, then that would set up an epic Game 7 matchup between these two squads. The American League’s #1 seed, versus the reigning World Series Champions. It’d be Tyler Glasnow for the Dodgers with Shohei Ohtani available in relief (and in the field, according to manager Dave Roberts). The Jays aren’t even thinking that far but it’d likely be future Hall of Famer Max Scherzer. Point out to me when baseball gets much better. Enjoy the ride!
Does it end tonight? We’ll all have to tune in to find out! Have a great and safe evening everyone!
