Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka reportedly has interest in renewing at Bayern Munich in order to extend his stay beyond this season. However, his prospects for getting his wish are uncertain.
That’s
according to a report from Sport Bild, as captured by @iMiaSanMia:
Leon Goretzka’s wish is clear: he wants to stay at Bayern and extend his contract. The midfielder fully identifies with the club and has repeatedly fought his way back into the team in recent years. However, with the competition in his position – and Bayern increasingly relying on younger players like Pavlović and Bischof – The truth is: Even though Goretzka would like to stay, ‘the signs point to a departure’ in the summer [@BILD]
BFW Analysis
Goretzka is an easy player to love and appreciated for his contributions both on and off the field. However, at 30 going on 31, in a midfield that is in the middle of a reload, it is hard to see him continue on unless he is willing to accept a reduced role and salary — which a player of his caliber should not have to do.
Joshua Kimmich is the lynchpin and Tom Bischof and Aleksandar Pavlović look like the future. Goretzka’s contract is expiring and this is looking like the natural end of a long tenure with the Bavarians.
