Zach Charbonnet was activated off the PUP list ahead of Week 7 and now, more help is on the way for the Seattle Seahawks’ backfield.
Rookie first-round pick Jadarian Price has had his three-week practice window to return from injured reserve opened by the Seahawks, the team announced on Thursday. Price initially suffered a chest injury in Seattle’s Week 2 win over the Arizona Cardinals, and then ultimately went on IR with the same injury ahead of its Week 4 win against the L.A. Chargers.
Head coach
Mike Macdonald told media on Monday that they would open Price’s practice window ahead of Week 8, and now the rookie tailback is officially back practicing and trending toward a return. Prior to his injured reserve stint, Price had rushed for 119 yards on 28 carries across three games, adding four catches for 21 yards through the air.
In his absence, Emanuel Wilson has taken on the lead role in the Seahawks’ backfield, rushing for 403 yards on 111 carries, with George Holani adding 108 yards on 36 carries. In a search for any kind of dynamic element in the running game, the team even turned to Velus Jones Jr. in Sunday’s win over the Chiefs, but the receiver-turned-running back was able to muster just eight yards on five carries — despite an 11-yard rush. Jones later left the Chiefs game with an injury.
Seattle’s been loosely connected to trade talks surrounding Indianapolis Colts star Jonathan Taylor, but with both Charbonnet and Price nearing returns, it will have a runway to see if it can spark its running game prior to the Nov. 10 trade deadline.
