The New Orleans Saints finished the draft with three selections in rounds 5-7, and each pick addressed roster needs. Let’s look at the first of those selections, Lorenzo Styles Jr.
Like his brother Sonny Styles, Lorenzo is extremely athletic, finishing the draft testing with a 9.99 RAS score. The Saints have always liked high athletic defenders, and Styles Jr. fits that.
On the Saints roster, although the slot position is still a bit of a need, that is probably not where Styles Jr. is going to make
his impact. If he does play on defense, he will primarily be a safety, but really, Styles Jr. is a very good special-teams player, and with his athleticism, he could be the perfect addition to the Saints’ special-teams unit.
Special teams was a major issue last season, so adding some high-level players to that group will go a long way and could help the Saints win. Styles Jr. was drafted by the Saints because of this, and unlike last year, when the special teams coordinator, Phil Galiano, lost Jonas Sanker to the defense, Styles Jr. should be a secure piece of the special teams.
