Lyle Odelein, a defenseman who won a Stanley Cup with the Montreal

Andrei Kuzmenko made his Penguins debut Saturday in Pittsburgh’s home opener, returning to the lineup less than two weeks after his father’s death. Kuzmenko had taken a leave of absence to return to Russia and mourn with his family before rejoining the team Friday and changing his jersey number to 62 to honor his father. [Trib Live]

A horse named Gaudreau, honoring late NHL star Johnny Gaudreau, finished second Saturday in the Grade 1 Champagne Stakes at Belmont Park. Another horse named Johnny Hockey, also named for Gaudreau, competed in the same race but faded late. [NHL]
