It’s been seven years since the Kansas City Chiefs’ last visit to Lumen Field to face the Seattle Seahawks. In fact, it was so long ago that it was still called CenturyLink Field. The Chiefs were the offensive juggernaut led by eventual MVP Patrick Mahomes, while the Seahawks were 8-6 and in need of a win to avoid letting their playoff fate come down to Week 17. It was one of Russell Wilson’s best games, a masterclass by Brian Schottenheimer, and a wide receiver clinic by Doug Baldwin and Tyler Lockett
in Seattle’s 38-31 upset win. I miss those days when even the lesser Seahawks teams could perform to that level.
Tonight’s game doesn’t have those stakes. Mahomes is not expected to play, likewise most of Kansas City’s starters. We will, however, see the Seahawks starters play the early portion of the game, and by “early” I mean maybe one or two series total.
It’s going to be a rainy, windy, soggy night at Lumen Field. There are still roster spots to be decided, so outside of curiosity over the starters (and hoping no one gets hurt), my focus will remain on key battles at third-string running back, right guard, the bottom of the wide receiver depth chart, and even nose tackle.
KING-5 NBC and NFL Network have the action at 7 pm PT. Check here for your local television affiliate. No discussion of illegal streams, please.
