Yesterday, we learned that former Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver would not be hired as a head coach despite the large amount of openings around the National Football League this offseason. Thusly, the Dolphins will miss out on the two third-round compensatory picks they would have been in line for if Weaver had been hired as the head-man-in-charge somewhere.
Unfortunately, it also looks like the Dolphins will miss out on any compensatory picks awarded by the league for departing
free agents. Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald is reporting that according to Nick Korte of Over the Cap — a website dedicated to NFL salaries and draft pick allocation — Miami is not expected to receive a single compensatory selection for the 2026 NFL Draft despite safety Jevon Holland signing a large free agent contract with the New York Giants last offseason.
Miami’s incoming free agents — including safety Ashtyn Davis, wide receiver Nick Westbrook-Ikhine and others — played too many snaps for the Dolphins in 2025, therefore canceling out the compensatory selections the Dolphins could have potentially earned for their departing players during the lead up to the 2025 NFL season.
The good news is that the Dolphins still have plenty of draft capital at their disposal come late April when the 2026 NFL Draft kicks off — owning five top-100 selections.
