There were (and are) a lot of managerial openings this offseason! There were nine at season’s end, and with the Orioles apparently close to filling their vacancy, there will still be five after that’s
all said and done.
The Rangers kind of cheated by having an in-house replacement ready to go as soon as Bruce Bochy bailed. The Angels zagged and hired Kurt Suzuki, while the Giants went totally off-script and pulled Tony Vitello from the college coaching ranks into the fire. With Baltimore apparently settled, that leaves the Padres, Twins, Braves, Rockies, and Nationals looking for a dugout honcho.
My question is, with the dominoes falling-ish in recent weeks, when is it going to end? The Braves may be waiting for Danny Lehmann’s availability after the conclusion of the World Series, or may be doing something completely different that has nothing to do with the Dodgers but is taking a while to roll through anyway. The Nationals and Twins are actively engaged in interviewing candidates and narrowing their lists. I never have any idea what A.J. Preller and the Padres are doing, and this is no different.
And then there’s the Rockies, who first need to find a General Manager, who will then have some/all the influence on the managerial search. So, the Rockies are likely the caboose here, and since they’re… the Rockies, that makes answering this question kinda hard. But if you gotta do it anyway, take a guess: January? Later? Maybe they’ll pull a Rockies and not even have a manager (or GM) heading into the season. Who knows?
