Braxton Berrios is being placed on injured reserve by the New York Giants after suffering a foot injury in Sunday’s 36-24 victory over the Arizona Cardinals, according to a report from ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter.
It is unclear when Berrios was injured, though his last play was a late-second quarter punt return on which he lost 2 yards.
Berrios was just added to the 53-man roster last week after the Giants released Odell Beckham Jr. Considering Beckham’s weekend rant after his release, he may have
taken himself out of the running for a return to the Giants.
The Giants have wide receivers Dalen Cambre and Jalin Hyatt on the practice squad. They cut ties with veteran wide receiver Darius Slayton, now a member of the Indianapolis Colts, early in the season.
Berrios has returned five kickoffs for an average of 27.6 yards and four punts for an average of 2.5 yards this season.
Charlie Jones, an experienced NFL kick returner, replaced Berrios on kickoff returns Sunday. He averaged 23.0 yards on three returns. He took over for Berrios on punt returns after the injury, averaging 14.5 yards on two returns.
