Acting Barcelona president Rafa Yuste has hit back at Real Madrid president Florentino Perez following his bizarre rant at an extraordinary press conference on Tuesday.
Barcelona have already issued a statement to say they are examining whether to take legal action, and Yuste has now shared his thoughts.
“Florentino ‘s words struck me as pathetic and full of falsehoods. The club already issued a statement yesterday considering legal action, but I want to say that this maneuver by Florentino Pérez to cover
up a sporting disaster that has been going on for two years will get him nowhere,” he said, per Mundo Deportivo.
“It’s pointless to talk about Negreira again when we’ve won two leagues with a project featuring players from La Masia and others who came from elsewhere. We’re winning it by 14 points, and this is just a smokescreen to try and justify poor management. Barça fans are very happy, and nothing will take that away from us.”
“Seven stolen league titles? That’s completely false. Objectively speaking, it’s not true. He’ll know, we’re going to defend ourselves, we owe it to the fans and the club, and nobody touches the club.”
Real Madrid manager Alvaro Arbeloa was also asked about Perez’s comments at his pre-match press conference and said he agreed with the 79-year-old that Madrid had been “robbed of seven leagues” due to the Negreira case.
“Yes of course,” he told reporters. “We all know what has happened for over 20 years… We’d all love the [Negreira] case to be resolved.”
Real Madrid are currently preparing to play their final three games of another trophyless season, starting on Thursday against Real Oviedo.
