Ludwig Kaiser is seemingly allowed to legally travel to international destinations in order to work following his recent arrest on a battery charge.
On Friday, AAA — the WWE-owned promotion where Kaiser has been wrestling as El Grande Americano – shared an image on social media that advertised the star (in his luchador mask) for an appearance later in the day.
The event is to promote the upcoming mask versus mask match between El Grande Americano and original El Grande Americano (Chad Gable). The appearance was originally set to take place on Thursday, but was canceled following Kaiser’s arrest. It will now take place on Friday night at the Kings League Dome in Mexico City.
Prior to the event’s announcement, an attorney for Kaiser, real name Marcel Barthel, filed a “Motion to Travel” due to the nature of the German wrestler’s line of work. According to court records, the attorney later filed an additional request to allow Kaiser to travel out of the state of Florida as well as internationally.
Court records indicate that Florida’s Assistant State Attorney Shaylynne Kotch “indicated no objection” to the motion, seemingly clearing the way for the court to approve the request.
Kaiser, 35, was arrested on Wednesday (May 20) in Orange County, Florida on a battery charge. The German wrestler was later released after making bail. TMZ reported it had obtained a police report on the incident, which occurred on April 23 in the building where Kaiser lives.
According to TMZ, the report said Kaiser was in an elevator with a female companion, and the two started kissing and became “uncontrollably intimate.” After the elevator stopped at the 12th floor, everyone exited and one neighbor told the couple to “please have some manners,” which led to Kaiser allegedly punching the man repeatedly, pushing him to the ground, and threatening him.
Raj Giri, founder of Wrestling Inc., later shared a different account of what allegedly occurred during the elevator ride.
“This is what I heard regarding the Ludwig Kaiser situation. He was in the apartment elevator with Andrea Bazarte [Kaiser’s girlfriend] and they were being affectionate, but nothing crazy or out of the ordinary,” Giri wrote in an X (Twitter) post. “[His neighbor] allegedly didn’t say anything in the elevator but once he got out on the 12th floor, he allegedly said something to Kaiser to the effect of ‘you need to show some f’n respect before I call ICE on that b**ch.’ Kaiser got out of the elevator and they had a little scuffle, but no punches were apparently thrown.”
Filings on the case detail that after Kaiser learned about an arrest warrant while in Mexico on Tuesday (May 19), quickly flew back to Florida and turned himself in. He was placed in custody and released on $1,000 bond. A “not guilty” plea was entered on behalf of Kaiser by his attorney, and a trial was requested.
Kaiser’s match against the original El Grande Americano is scheduled for take place on May 30 in Monterrey, Mexico, at AAA Lucha Libre’s Noche de los Grandes.
