The first half between the Buffalo Bills and Tampa Bay Buccaneers is in the books. It’s been an entertaining back-and-forth half of football, with the Bills leading 21-20 as they hit the locker room. Things didn’t start off so well for Buffalo’s offense, which took the field after an impressive stop by defense to hold the Buccaneers pointless on their opening drive.
In trying to avoid a safety, quarterback Josh Allen made one of the most bone-headed plays of the season in fish-tossing the football
out of the end zone toward wide receiver Khalil Shakir. The defense rushed back out and stepped up to hold Tampa Bay out of the end zone inside the five-yard line.
As Bill Cowher pointed out, it’s been a mixed bag from Allen, who does look a bit more comfortable throwing down the field to a group of receivers who are actually making strides to separate. A long touchdown to Tyrell Shavers was classic backyard football out of Allen, who avoided pressure to extend the play for six.
Then late in the second, A quick swing out to running back Ty Johnson gobbled up half the field en route to the end zone. The passing attack is still a work in progress, and difficult to remake in-season, and the run defense still looks awful — but so far this looks a lot more like the competitive brand of Bills football fans have come to expect this era.
Here’s your open thread for the rest of today’s Bills-Bucs game. As always, be kind to one another — and in all things… Go Bills!
