The New York Jets have won two straight games after defeating the Cleveland Browns 27 – 20 on Sunday.
The Jets were thoroughly outplayed by the Browns in most aspects of the game on Sunday. The Browns had
nearly twice the number of first downs as the Jets. The Browns nearly tripled the Jets’ passing yards. The Browns had more rushing yards than the Jets. Yet the Jets won the game. They did so with the help of an excellent performance by Breece Hall in the second half of the game, a dominant four sack performance by Will McDonald, and special teams that scored two touchdowns on returns. Throw in a couple of really dumb Browns penalties that allowed the Jets to run out the clock at the end of the game, and you have the ingredients for a Jets victory in a game they probably should have lost.
It’s unlikely the Jets will be so fortunate this week. The Jets go on the road to play the New England Patriots on a short week on Thursday Night Football. The Patriots have been one of the best teams in the NFL this season. They lead the AFC East with a sparkling 8-2 record. The Patriots have won seven straight games, including a road victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday. With the top-rated passer in the NFL in Drake Maye and the stingiest run defense in the NFL this season, the Patriots shape up as a very tough matchup for the Jets. Unless the Patriots suffer a letdown or the Jets get more special teams magic on Thursday, it’s difficult to see the Jets being all that competitive with a Patriots team playing as well as any team in the NFL.
